Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral?
No you don’t. If you have concerns about your child's development, please get in touch directly for an initial chat. From there you may decide to arrange assessment and therapy.
At what age should I seek help for my child if I'm worried?
You should seek advice as soon as you are concerned. Don’t take a ‘wait and see’ approach. You have nothing to lose by discussing your concerns early, and if your concerns do prove correct, early intervention provides the best outcomes.
We can provide a range of services for toddlers who are delayed in their development or have been diagnosed with a disability. Sometimes, when a toddler is around 2 years old, families realise that they are not developing as expected. If this is your first child, you may even be surprised when someone else, e.g. a friend, or childcare educator, suggests your child is not developing as they should. It can also be hard to notice delays when a child is young, and often late walking or talking are the most obvious signs, which can sometimes be an indication of difficulties in other areas of learning and development.
Is there anything I can do while I’m waiting for an appointment?
The short answer is yes - a lot! Once you get in touch and we understand your areas of concern, we can advise you about some simple strategies you can implement at home to help your child, and provide you with advice about the best way to access funding for services, if eligible.
How do I know if my child is eligible for NDIS support?
The NDIS can be a real minefield if you’re not sure where to start. If you are concerned about your child’s development, i.e. not meeting milestones, not talking yet – contact us to discuss whether you might be eligible. The requirements differ for different ages. Children under 7 don’t need an official diagnosis to be eligible, they just need to show delays in two or more developmental areas. We can provide families with pre-planning advice and access to interim services while awaiting an NDIS plan. We have been involved with the NDIS since the rollout in 2016 and have solid experience in helping children with disabilities and their families to access the NDIS, and to arrange intervention services and ongoing support.
